Last Sunday, a team of doctors from Nepal National Hospital visited HLE Nepal to provide all of our staff with a free health checkup.

The diagnosis? We’re super healthy!

This initiative is just one of the many reasons why we’re an employer of choice in Nepal.

What were our staff checked for?

Health check

Almost 70 plus HLE Nepal employees were given tests in the following areas:

  • Body mass index (BMI)
  • Blood pressure
  • Generic blood tests to detect sugar levels
  • Urine tests to identify urinary tract infections, diabetes or other metabolic conditions.

Why is good health so important?

Research from Health Enhancement Research Organisation (HERO) on more than 20,000 employees in the US found a significant relationship between employee health, performance and productivity.

It found that workers who ate healthily and exercised on a regular basis were 25% more likely to have higher job performance and had 27% fewer chances for absenteeism.

This is the power of good health care at work!

The most recent data from the World Health Organisation (WHO) ranks Nepal 119 for life expectancy.

The good news is that this is down from 129 in 2000, but we still have a long way to go.

Free health care programs like this can help to identify diseases early, with some of the most common causes of mortality in Nepal being totally treatable (2016, WHO), including:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (9.2%)
  • Lower respiratory infection (7%)
  • Tuberculosis (3%)

Strong healthcare needs strong insurance coverage

We believe that our employees should be insured to cover them and their immediate family for any illness or accidents they suffer.

We have an insurance facility in place for each employee up to:

  • NPR 700,000 for personal accidents, and
  • NPR 100,000 for medical insurance.

The wellbeing of our staff is vital for HLE Nepal’s growth

The health and welfare of staff is crucial for any company and we want our employees to be in good health so they can continue to contribute to the future prosperity of Nepal.
